CUSEC 2011

By Technophilic (Winter 2011)

On January 13, we headed to the Marriott Chateau Champlain hotel to attend the 3-day CUSEC conference.

Besides the dazzling venue and a seemingly-infinite supply of coffee, CUSEC was filled with academic and corporate talks/tutorials. There was also the CUSEC DemoCamp, where undergraduates got to present the projects they work on during their free time. What’s more, CUSEC had its very own career fair! Companies—from startups to multinationals—were there to hire students. At the end of each day, the attendees got together to chat with speakers and meet other students.

While there, we met Dr. Paul Kry, a computer science professor at McGill who gave a talk on computer graphics and 3D modelling. We also talked with Julie Steele, an editor at O’Reilly Media—she discussed data visualization
