Cloud computing: a pie in the sky?
by Robert Aboukhalil
Back in the 1950’s, using a computer meant typing commands into a terminal, a machine which would route your requests to another, bigger machine, called the mainframe. The mainframe is the machine that processes requests from all terminals. We’ve mostly moved away from this model, but a new one, cloud computing, seems to be gaining popularity.
The thinking machine
by Daisy Daivasagaya
Physically mimicking the brain may soon become a reality! The “missing” factor which makes this true is the memristor: a thus far hidden component in the family of resistors, capacitors and inductors that emerged as a major technological breakthrough at HP labs.

Breaking barriers
by Denis Maniti
The wireless industry is seeing the convergence of high speed wireless data connections, powerful handheld devices and clashing tech/wireless giants. Most consumers are somewhat oblivious to these forces, so one could ask why they should care. They should care because all these aspects of the mobile world coming together have resulted in a wireless experience that we, as consumers, have never seen before.
Science Bytes with Marc Garneau
by Technophilic
Last October, we attended the Science Policy conference. While there, we met with Marc Garneau, MP for Westmount/Ville-Marie.
Originally from Quebec City, Dr. Garneau moved to London to complete a PhD in Electrical Engineering. He was the first Canadian in space and, from 2001 to 2006, was president of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). We discussed his science and engineering background as it relates to his recent political endeavours.
